Cricket

England W Tour of Australia, Only Test

Australia take a dominant win by an innings and 122 runs.

England M Tour of India, 5th T20I, 1st-3rd ODI

India won all these matches, taking the T20I series 4-1 and a clean sweep in the ODIs.

Ireland M Tour of Zimbabwe, Only Test, 1st-3rd ODIs, 1st-3rd T20Is

Ireland won the test by 63 runs, then Zimbabwe won the ODIs 2-1. None of the matches were really close. Two of the T20Is were lost to rain but Zimbabwe won the other narrowly.

Pakistan M Tri-Series

This short warmup to the Champion's Trophy saw New Zealand winning all their matches, and South Africa losing all of theirs. Pakistan finished middle of the pile.

ICC Men's Champions Trophy

No shortage of controversy, with Pakistan being the hosts and India being richer than every other cricket board combined. India was able to demand that none of its matches be scheduled in Pakistan, and became the only team to play all their matches in the same venue and country. The match between India and Bangladesh saw a "technical error" where the tournament branding was clearly redesigned to exclude the host's name. Then there was the issue of India's anthem being played during the Australia v/s England match at Lahore, which was again through a playlist distributed by the ICC. Surely the fact that the ICC is headed by the son of India's Minister of Home Affairs has nothing to do with either of these mishaps.

Formula 1

F1 75 Live

All 10 teams had their livery reveals in an event that was decently fun, with the presenter Jack Whitehall keeping it light hearted, poking fun at many in the paddock. They also didn't delay the the reveals unnecessarily, interspersing the musical events between launches. There was also fun poked at the FIA for its rules on swearing by Whitehall and Gordon Ramsey (known for his swearing first and cooking second). The Grand Prix Drivers' Association has also previously demanded that the drivers be treated with respect, and the FIA seems to have softened its stance. There were boos from the crowd when the FIA was mentioned (good) and when Red Bull took the stage (not what we want to see in sport). It was nice to see the teams having fun with their presentations, although Mercedes forgetting how to do a pitstop was... concerning.

Formula E

Jeddah E-Prix

The race was shifted to the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, in an alternate layout. The pit straight was the same as the F1 circuit, and after the first three technical chicane, the track took a hairpin to rejoin the final 4 corners - a complex of 3 high speed corners leading onto the back straight that precedes the final corner. Two chicanes each were added to the pit straight and the back straight to suit Formula E's style of having many corners and shorter straights.

Race 1

Rookie Taylor Barnard managed to qualify in the top 4! Maximilian Guenther denied Pascal Wehrlein his third pole out of three races this season. Pit Boost made its debut in this race for more action. Guenther pitted early and lost three positions. Oliver Rowland managed to take the lead and built up a significant gap... until he didn't. Rowland ran out of energy towards the end of the final lap, so his traction out of the final few corners was decided only by the regenerative braking, allowing to take the race win. Antonio Felix da Costa, who had two second-place finishes, had a bad race, and Rowland took the lead in the championship.

Race 2

Barnard took his first pole, 4 races in! He beat out his former mentor Rowland to it. Rowland seems to have learnt from the previous race, spending a few laps in the pack to build up an energy advantage, then romping out in the lead later through the race. Barnard held off Jake Hughes for second place, in an impressive drive from the youngling.
